Feeney - March 2018

Just wow. If you're wondering about whether to book at Salen Pier or not, then just do it! We stayed for a week at Salen Pier Point, and we both absolutely loved it (and we're fussy!) The situation is spectacular; the location is unique; the property is beautifully and tastefully decorated and appointed, and very clean, with mod cons such as Sonos built-in, DVD and Netflix, plus underfloor heating, cracking bathrooms and an amazing, relaxing vibe. Peter was lovely to deal with too, and super helpful. Go, and enjoy!!!

Hoff- July 2017
Having returned to our home in Germany from almost four weeks' holiday we would like to thank you for providing the undoubted highlight of the trip.  We found Salen Pier Point unique, not only because of its fantastic spectacular position on the pier, but also because of its "inner values". As you witnessed on the phone, its perfect insulation was the reason for us thinking that something was wrong with the heating and it was the reason for a very quiet inside when it was windy. The bathrooms are so spacious, the showers so perfect, the bedrooms so cosy, the beds so comfortable, the kitchen-gadgets so first-class, and the settee and large flat-screen so inviting to watch the tour de France.

Our direct neighbours from the shellfish company were very friendly, the otter paid us a visit too. All in all: a more than perfect place. So I guess Salen Pier Points' first German visitors will not be its last, we ourselves still have to spot some dolphins.

Though we have not met you in person, we really liked the straight-forward nature  of our communication.

Having just returned from Salen Pier Point can we just say what a great location it is  - like floating on the sea - with a superbly fitted out cabin.

Thank you also for making our week on Mull so perfect. Winter on a Scottish island is very special especially the solitude, the light, snow capped mountains, rainbows and of course the wildlife. After a day out walking or exploring what could be better than a warm, comfortable, stylish 'home' to welcome us back. Your flexibility was most appreciated and it was good to meet you too in order to have a chat about Mull, Pier Point and its history.

Denton - August 2016

We had an amazing time at Salen and loved both Pier Point and the Lodge. The children had a great time jumping off your pier and all nine of us made it to the top of Ben More. The fishermen were amazing with the children, and we enjoyed learning about the scallops, and the free tasters that we were taught how to prepare. We would also like to say what an amazing experience they had on the Flying Dutchman, it was absolutely brilliant; they all had a go at steering and hoisting sails, and lay on the rigging up on the bow. We caught a glimpse of the otter too, and managed to get a couple of photos. We would definitely like to return one day and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the accommodation to our friends.

After spending 3 glorious weeks in the Pier Point, we have to say that we were blown away by the unique experience. Not literally of course, as we had many days of tranquil flat calm seas, and quite the best weather we have ever experienced on our many trips to the Island.

Your concept for the accommodation was bold and imaginative in the extreme. The reality of what you and Susanne have achieved has delivered the concept perfectly. And the reality is a full on Mull sensory experience Exhilarating uninterrupted views of weather coming up or down the Sound of Mull one minute, tranquil views up to the Ardnamurchan Peninsular on the Mainland and down the Sound to Lochaline and Glen Forsa in the blink of an eye. Peering down from the Pier into the aquarium of rock pools Bladder Wrack and Kelp is a delight. We have yet to get over looking out through our bedroom curtains in the gloaming before sunrise on our first morning to see an otter hunting for food not 5 yards below our window. Pure wildlife magic!

The accommodation was impeccably designed to maximise the uniqueness of the location. The bed was so comfortable and roomy, and the shower[s] were to die for. There was so much living space in the kitchen/dining/living area too. Again, so comfortable and ergonomically sensible. All this with the opportunity to step out through the large French Windows onto the pier to admire the view, to fish, or simply have breakfast or coffee on the table outside. The Ethical Shellfish Company people were great. Their operations did not intrude in the slightest on our enjoyment of the accommodation. Indeed, they provided added interest for ourselves and our guests finding out about their pretty unique business. We chanced to meet a friend of ours from Sussex walking towards the Pier when we arrived back late one evening. He was leading a group of people on a wildlife trip [ staying at Salen Hotel of all places]. We invited the Group to see the Pier Point and all were amazed by the 'Tardis' effect you and the quality you both have achieved.

So there you have it; a perfect location to access all parts of the Island. Salen is by far the best base from which to explore the scenery and wildlife of this latter day Jurassic Park teeming with iconic wildlife [Golden Eagles, White-tailed Eagles, Hen Harriers, Short-eared Owls, Great Northern, Red-throated Divers and Black-throated Divers, Bottle-nose Dolphins, Harbour Porpoise, and , of course, Otters [ this year we saw single otters, 2 different mothers with 2 cubs, and 1 mother with 2 cubs]. All this and wonderful scenery in all sorts of light and weather moods from your exquisite 'Waiting Room' at the end of the Pier.

Well done both of you, and thank you for the privilege of staying there for so long.

May 2016 - John & Pam
Salen Pier Point is like being on board a ship with the sea all around you. If the weather is bad you do not need to do anything,  Just sit back and take advantage of the fantastic view looking across the Sound of Mull and watch the yachts and boats sail by, but do not forget to look towards the shore, as there is always the chance of an Otter. The accommodation is beautiful, modern, warm and very relaxing - at night you can go to sleep with the gentle sound of the waves lapping all around you.

By the way we were so impressed with the sun blinds and USB power points that we are looking at getting them.

2nd Guests staying at Pier Point - April 2016 - Garreth & Ruth
What a beautiful place to be. It is hard for words, or even pictures, to really do justice to this place. Being there, with the sea on all sides, feeling more than a boardwalk away from the world is something you have to experience really. Let's just say that watching the water switch from being as smooth and calm as glass to rocky and choppy; or the skies up the Sound of Mull shift from deep-set grey to a brilliant blue is endlessly fascinating never mind the otters, seals and porpoise that might distract you. A blissful blend of luxury and nature.  Spoil yourself by staying here; you will not forget it.

Salen is an ideal base to explore Mull and Salen Pier Point itself was greatly anticipated and did not disappoint.  What an amazing project.  Congratulations Peter and Susanne for having this vision.

Modern and luxurious with fantastic sea views whatever the weather.   An amazing experience to live here for a week.

With all the windows looking across the Sound of Mull we enjoyed cooking and eating in the open plan living area so much that we only ate out once - a lovely meal at Am Birlinn, booking required.

Great to be living over the sea and watching the wildlife come and go. We saw great northern diver, red breasted merganser, wigeon, eider, goldeneye to mention a few and of course, otters!

One week on Mull is just not long enough, we did so much and there is so much more.

Peter could not have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

This is from a House guest - March 2016 - Danny & Jacqui (3rd visit)

Another great visit to the Pier House at Salen. Perfect location for a group of friends, fishing, cycling, birdwatching and taking in the beautiful views at this fantastic location. The house is still equipped to a high standard and is the ideal location for easy access to all points of the island. Great food, drink and company made for a real  treat. Try the 'Glass Fusion Workshop' located behind the Co-Op on main street Tobermory good fun on a wet day. The work at the new Pier Point build is now complete and it looks fantastic - high quality fixtures and fitting, topped off with incredible views from the glass fronted living area.. As always, we're missing the peace and are looking forward to our next visit.
